About

A small shop with a slow hand.

Potpourri is a gift shop in Dubuque, Iowa, built around the belief that giving something beautiful should feel as good as receiving it. We stock cards, candles, home goods, and small treasures from local makers, then wrap each purchase like it matters.

Our story So far

Potpourri began with a simple idea: a gift shop that feels like a neighbor’s front porch. In Dubuque, that means greeting regulars by name, keeping the kettle warm, and choosing stock that fits the seasons of real life here—holidays, graduations, housewarmings, and Tuesdays that need a little lift.

We do not chase trends. We look for makers whose work is honest, useful, and lovely to live with: hand-poured candles, small-batch ceramics, letterpress cards, and the kind of garden accents that age beautifully on a Midwest windowsill.

Every piece is selected with intention. If it arrives on our shelves, it is because we would happily give it ourselves—or keep it on our own table.

The best gifts are the ones that say, “I was thinking of you.”
— The quiet philosophy behind every purchase

How we work

Shelves of local candles, ceramics, and greeting cards styled with handwritten price tags and small potted plants

Shelves stocked with intention

We buy in small batches so the shop stays fresh without becoming overwhelming. Each visit should feel like browsing a friend’s carefully edited collection, not a warehouse. If you need guidance, we know where every item came from and why it belongs here.

Thoughtful wrapping

Gift wrapping is not an afterthought. We choose paper, ribbon, and a finishing sprig to match the occasion and the recipient.

Community first

From Dubuque makers to neighboring small businesses, we keep our dollars close to home because the whole street grows stronger together.
